Let The Joneses Be The Joneses And You Be You
Who are the Joneses and why do we feel we need to keep up with them?
I’m not talking about the Joneses next door in your neighborhood.
I’m talking about the Joneses on the internet.
Not the fancy house and cars.
The business growth. The teams. The content. The websites.
With the world.wide.web we have what seems like a front row seat to everyone's business. We can see websites, blogs, social media, and anything else they want to share.
And with that, we tend to see what they have and compare it to what we don’t have.
Sometimes it’s just a quick thought of “oh, I wish I had that” and sometimes we actually find ourselves making decisions based on what another business is doing rather than on what’s best for our own.
You see a badass website and feel you need to drop $10K on one.
You see FB ads and feel you need to do the same.
You see a team and push your budget aside and hire away.
Sometimes these are legit next steps in your business. But, sometimes they’re not.
Maybe instead of dropping $10K on a website you simply need a landing page.
Maybe instead of FB ads, you simply need Canva and a content roadmap.
Maybe instead of a full team, you need a one-off hire to complete a project.
We need to be mindful that we are growing the business we truly want to grow. When we focus on who we are as a business owner, what our personal values are, what our business plan is, and how we want to execute and grow, our business stays true to us.
And, I 100% get it - I want to be so much farther and I see other businesses that are there, but I remind myself that I’m exactly where I need to be (thank you Callie Page for that reminder).
And, I’m also not saying to not look around. Looking around with good intentions can often lead to:
finding new ideas for photos
seeing how people share their content
seeing what people are engaging with
seeing that there are customers for your type of product/service
seeing that you have a special something that people are looking for
seeing that not everyone is doing things perfectly and it’s a reminder that you don’t have to either
So, this is your reminder to let the Joneses be the Joneses and you keep being you <3
