Say Yes To Be Able To Say No

How do you know if you enjoy something or don’t enjoy something?

You have to try it out, right?

Trying new things can be scary, but it can also be thrilling!

During a recent one-on-one coaching session my client said, “I finished the project for that client and I do not want to offer that specific service anymore!”

Me: “why do you not want to offer it anymore?”

Client: “Since it’s not a strength of mine, it takes me way too long and for what I charge and it actually costs me money and it sucks my energy because I don’t truly enjoy it.”

Way 👏🏽 to 👏🏻 go 👏🏼

Can you relate to this scenario?

Has that happened? Hopefully, it made you feel good!

Sometimes you have to say yes to be able to say no.

Trying out a new service and/or product is a way to find out your strengths and to find the things you enjoy doing. And when you try something out (for a hot minute or for two years) and you want to stop offering it...it’s not rude, it’s not failing, and it’s definitely not selfish.

And here are some excuses I’m sure are running through your mind:

“But, I have to make money, I can’t remove offerings!”

“But, I’ll lose alllll my clients because of removing that one service!”

“But, the other company I know offers it, and if I don’t then they’re going to be more successful than I am!”

“But, I can’t say no!”

I get each and every one of those because at some point over the last 10 years I’ve said each one of them.

Here’s the deal - you can’t be all the things to all the people. I promise you’ll burn out at some point.

Think about it like this...which feels better: Offering 14 different services and being “okay” at all of them or offering 5 services that you are truly an expert on and known for?

I’ll choose the latter!

We all have specific talents that are within us and we have to do some digging, some experimenting, and some reflecting to really nail them down. Once you do, you will find that it’s easier to communicate what you offer, it’s easier to charge a higher price because you’re an expert, and your energy stays high because you’re doing what you love!

Now - go on and take inventory of your offerings and see if you need to Marie Kondo any of them :)

Have you offered a product or service and then realized you didn’t want to offer it anymore and removed it? What happened?
