Visionary vs Integrator
Quick quiz for ya!
Do you:
A. easily see the big picture of your business?
B. get bored with the little details?
C. love organizing the small details?
D. see a project to the end without getting bored?
If you answered yes to A & B there is a good chance you’re a Visionary.
If you answered yes to C & D there is a good chance you’re an Integrator.
Now, for those who said, I’m all 4...well, you’re a unicorn and keep being the magical unicorn that you are!
What are these two terms that I’m talking about?
A visionary is someone who can see the big picture, gets distracted easily, moves on to the next idea super fast, and isn’t really good at seeing the project through.
An integrator is someone who doesn’t necessarily see the big picture, loves the details, can not only take the big picture and break it down into a process but will make sure it gets completed.
When I owned our physical coworking space, a business friend saw me struggling with doing and completing the detailed parts of work. She suggested I read the book Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman and Mark C. Winters.
As I listened to this book, a sense of relief came over me and I saw where the struggles were coming from. I was a visionary having to be both the visionary and implementer. I had sooooo many ideas to bring to the space, but, they wouldn’t always come to life because I would get stuck in the process of creating them and get bored, frustrated, and mentally exhausted.
Turns out I wasn’t lazy or a whiner (hello, crappy self talk), I simply wasn’t working to my strengths so it was harder to do these tasks.
Learning about these two types helped me determine what tasks I needed to delegate and/or hire out. My lovely employee got assigned to fill out the social media metrics spreadsheet and then we would meet to discuss them and brainstorm more content.
Now being solo, I try to put the “boring to me” tasks right before a super fun task. It gives me an incentive to finish the lovely spreadsheet so I can have some fun!
For solopreneurs, it can be tough to wear both hats, so I highly recommend reading the book Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman and Mark C. Winters so you can understand your work style and then work on planning out your team based on your strengths and weaknesses.
