"You Can Do Anything, But Not Everything."

"You can do anything, but not everything."

I'm sure David Allen wasn't thinking about me planning Ellie's birthday party when he stated that line.

I started out strong and started planning Ellie’s party a month in advance...not common.

We then opened up Pinterest to get some ideas on the cake, decorations, and snacks.

We found the cake and sent off the inquiry ☑️

We looked through decorations and luckily those could be minimal as it was outside and the bounce house was the main thing.

Then it came to snacks. First, bless the moms who create these things and also create a blog so non-crafty moms can assess the skill level.

We decided on croissant sandwiches that used toothpicks and googly eyes to look like crabs. Grapes on a skewer to look like seaweed. Spinach/Artichoke dip for moss (or something like that), and cucumbers and cantaloup stamped out into stars for starfish.

Then we got to the week of her party:
- The two stores I went to didn't have googly eyes.
- The cucumbers we grabbed were too skinny for the star stamp
- I didn't bring the skewers from the house to the shop

So you know what we did...we had snacks that didn't look like crabs, seaweed, or starfish.

And you know what…everybody had a good time.

Selfishly - including me.

There was a time when I would have beat myself up about this. Annoyed I didn't order stuff in time. Annoyed because it wasn't like the other themed parties. Annoyed because I recognize I'm good at starting things, but not exactly finishing things.

But in my much wiser (and kinder to myself) years I’ve confirmed that not stressing out and getting enough sleep matters way more.

So, yes we can do anything, but we can't do everything...especially not all at the same time!

Does this resonate with you at all? Do you find yourself trying to carry all the plates without ever putting one down?
