A Little Bit Creates Consistency!

Have you ever looked at a task that didn’t start out very big, but because you kept skipping it… it became massive?

Hopefully not just me, but if it is….well, here we are anyway!

I have tasks on my list that I set to reoccur weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly.

Now, this makes me sound like I’m an extremely organized person and you may think I have my sh*t together…buuuut here’s why I have do this.

I am a visionary, enneagram 7, and manifesting generator who does not have innate strengths in staying organized, staying consistent, or focusing. And definitely, out of sight out of mind type gal.

Because of that amazing combo I wanted to share what I’ve done and how I do my best to still conquer the tasks as business owner (and manager of our household).

Just a handful of recurring tasks I’ve skipped that have come back and bite me right in the buttocks (did you read that in a Forest Gump voice like i did?!) …

  • The weeds in the garden (so.many.weeds.)

  • Implementing a marketing plan I made for a group I’m in

  • Updating our family finances + organizing bills

  • Updating monthly social media metrics to see what’s working/not working

Specifically, I pushed off doing my social media metrics for 3 months and it was brutal because entering numbers into a google doc for 3 months of content was awful - plus in 3 months some things aren’t even relevant…I see you IG algorithm!

So this doesn’t happen I put these types of tasks in front of me more often. Then I can spend only 15 - 30 minutes on these “not so fun tasks” instead of 2 hours.

I make a spot for said tasks in my asana (it links to my calendar and I write them in my paper planner) on a reoccurring basis.

  • Each week we weed the garden instead of just watering it

  • Each week I have a 30 minutes to do any marketing tasks for the group I’m in

  • Each week I go through our family quickbooks to match activity and then once a month I pull the report and look at budgeted numbers vs actual numbers

  • On the 1st of the month I go in and pull my social media metrics

And no, I don’t always need a full hour, but again, if I don’t have it in front of me it’s out of sight and out of mind. So i leave space for it and then if I don’t need the full time I finish early and work on something else.

While I used to get annoyed and wish I could just remember all the things and complete them of memory - it’s not how my brain works. Doing personal assessments over the years has helped me tremendously with this because I see what my tendencies are and try to work with them.

I’d love to know - based on how you work - do you have to break things down and put them in front of you or are you a task checking off machine?!

PS: keep an eye out for a Masterclass I’ll be teaching at the end of the month on how to use a braindump to create a schedule that works for you!
