Don't Forget About This Group Of People When Launching Your Biz
Recently, a topic has come up between a current Small Business Cultivator client and a woman I met with today…
We were talking about launching a business and getting the word out.
Yes, social media.
Yes, a newsletter.
But what about one group of people that could be so so powerful?
The people you already know.
Our SBC client is so close to fully launching her new business. But, when I say new, I’m referring to the business. The service she offers is not new to her. She’s worked in this industry for many years. She’s attended conferences, led groups, attended networking events, and built great relationships.
As we’re wrapping things up and helping launch her into the world, one of our experts mentioned creating a Top 100 list—a list of all the people she already knows.
That list includes who they are, how you know them, their contact information, how long it’s been since you’ve been in contact with them, and then….what could be the topic when reaching out.
A potential referral.
Simply announcing your new business.
A potential customer.
When it comes to this list, you’re going in with a previous relationship, which I would hope feels way more comfortable than trying to talk to someone you have no clue who they are.
And while this conversation was had with two new business owners, this can also work if you’re pivoting or launching a new service/product.
Annnnnd of those immediately thinking, “Ugh, but I don’t want to bug them by sending them something.”
Stop it.
You’re not bugging them. You’re in business, and you have to sell things to keep a business open. To sell things, people need to know about said things.
If they’re not interested, they’ll either respond with, “That’s awesome, congrats!” and that’s it. Or “I’d love to connect with you in the future as I don’t have the space right now.” Or they’ll say nothing…and that’s okay!
So, if you’re starting a new business, pivoting, or launching a new product/service, don’t forget about reaching out to those you already know! It’s okay to make things a little easier on yourself :)
