🎶 It’s the most awkward time of the year….🎶
Ah, the week between Christmas and the New Year.
For some, out-of-office has been up for over a week and they are fully out of the office.
For some, out-of-office has been up, but they’ve been cleaning up the backend of their business.
For some, they took off the main days, but are back up and running (i see you retail and food service).
Lastly, for some, it’s a mixture of both. A mixture of working when they want and on what they want while also turning things off.
Some encourage the full break and some encourage working to the 11th hour to take full advantage of the whole year.
But, what does it look like for you?
We tend to start our own businesses because we want time freedom and flexibility. This is one of those times of the year when hopefully you get to choose. You may have a great idea spark up or Quickbooks to catch up so you feel like working - but you don’t necessarily have to.
When working with my clients this is usually a sweet spot they want to get to. Whether it’s a holiday or the evenings and weekends they don’t want to have to work, but if they want to they do. And most importantly they don’t feel the guilt for laying it all down for the day 👏🏻👏🏻
Getting there takes some work and can look like- removing blocks where we feel we have to be working 24/7, setting boundaries, working through realistic schedules, hiring help, removing the need for perfection, and even accountability.
Technically I’m on maternity leave but there’s only so much Netflix I can watch (firefly lane, Emily in Paris, a couple of awfully good Christmas movies, and Dream Home Makeover) before I feel my brain turns into mush. And obviously a lot of baby snuggles and navigating feedings and dinner and bedtime 🙃
But, there have been a couple of SBC discovery calls, scheduling some social media scheduling, Voxers with clients (with extra time for responding) and lucky for me my 2023 planner* just came in the mail so it’s time to start filling that in for both our family schedule and my work schedule!
All things that really do give me joy, keep my brain moving, and are done when I can do them but not pushing it to where it’s overwhelming.
So - what about you - are you fully OOO, working towards those end-of-year goals, or a little mix of both?
