Need To Get Out Of Your Own Head?

This past Friday I attended the Chamber of Commerce small business roundtable meeting.

There are usually about 20 individuals there and it’s really used to discuss topics that are hard to do in a huge setting but with a familiar small group of people, it feels like a judgment free zone.

This week's kickoff question was, “what is the quote or thing you heard when you were younger that still applies to you today?”

Well mine came to me without ever actually realizing it actually it fits many moments of being a business owner.

It was during a high school softball game when I had struck out both times I had been up to bat. Hitting was not a strong point because I got in my head so so much.

The second time I had struck out my dad could read me like a book. He saw I was mad, stressed, and frustrated. He quietly walked over to the back of the dugout and whispered in my ear…”just hit the f-ing ball.”

Obviously, we have a special relationship - I’m a big-time daddy's girl and we are wired almost exactly the same way.

He said that phrase and walked away as quickly and quietly as he had walked up. No scene, no-nonsense, just a straight phrase to shake me out of my head.

Guess what?

It worked.

I’m not sure if it was a single or a double the next inning, but I remember getting on base and looking right at him in the crowd. He gave his head nod and I smiled.

While some may think that phrase is a bit harsh - it’s what I needed and we both knew it. (I’m a big time daddies girl and the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree, like at all. So he gets me!)

So, the next time you are overthinking a task, a project, a sales call, or an email think of Lindell whispering in your ear to just hit the f-ing ball :)

You’ve got this, friend!

And, thanks dad 💕
