The Power of Processing Your Thoughts
Do you want to know why a brain dump is so magical?
Because at its core, it removes all the shit that’s keeping you from seeing what you need to see
Think about it… You have 34 tasks rolling around in your head and they all seem important. You’re paralyzed and can’t move forward with what you actually need to do.
So, you take out a piece of paper, take your pencil, and you write out all 34 tasks
You take a step back and look at your list. Something about seeing them in front of you makes it a whole new list. There are still 34 things, but you’re not as paralyzed by the number of tasks. You’re able to see the ones that you actually need to do
Sometimes, the ones you need to do are not the most fun to do, but that’s just how it happens sometimes!
The act of getting it out of your head is what brings clarity.
If you’ve ever been to therapy, there’s something about sitting in the chair and just talking.
No judgment. Just you talking while the therapist writes in their notepad.
A lot of the time after we’ve talked out loud we can see what the issue is.
The cool thing about having a therapist is that they can help you connect some dots or see some underlying things that you may not have been able to see because you’re so close to it.
When I work with clients, both of these situations show up. Deep down they know what they need to do but there’s a hesitation to make a decision.
They fear they don’t know enough to make a decision. They feel they need to talk it through and get some affirmation.
When we work together, I get curious. I ask questions and they word-vomit their thoughts and their feelings. While they word vomit, a magical part of my brain can connect the big picture and the small details.
Instead of a therapy couch, it’s usually Zoom. And instead of a notebook, it’s a Google Doc.
**And no, I'm not comparing myself to a therapist because that’s not what I am nor try to be**
What’s interesting is that many of us sometimes fight the urge to ask for help because we feel like we really should be able to do it on our own. We have to do it on our own and we’ll look like an idiot if we ask for help because God forbid we don’t know everything about everything :)
That’s not the case. You don’t have to do it alone. You shouldn’t be embarrassed to ask for help.
You have your strength and other experts have theirs.
Mine is being able to listen and connect thoughts so that a business owner can have the clarity they need to take the next step forward….with no judgment.
What’s your expertise? What’s your magic power? Your secret sauce?
And if you need my expertise in the form of a brainstorming session, let’s do it!
