Do Your Actions Match Your Ambition?

This is actually a quote I heard from Jasmine Star and it hit me in the gut.

As I worked throughout the day and the week it would help me determine whether I was chalking up something as an excuse or a legitimate reason for not doing something.

It could be showing up to a networking event, doing the reel, sending out my newsletter, or sending a follow-up email.

At the moment it may seem to be a small thing that could get passed up.

But over time…do they add up and have more effect on my business dreams?

And lately, I felt I’ve asked this question to a handful of people during different situations:

  • Someone who wanted to make sure their business was being kept top of mind but was sharing reasons he didn’t have time to show up on social to stay relevant and top of mind

  • Someone who has a team and some of the team members are looking for promotions, but skipping the small detailed steps needed to get promoted

  • Someone who wanted to launch their new idea, but kept putting a dose of perfectionism on things that were already amazing but taking away from the big tasks to actually launch

  • Someone who was looking to scale their business, but didn’t want to do the face-to-face marketing because they didn’t have time (yet that is where most of their sales come from)

  • Someone who wanted to step back a couple of days from their business, but struggled to delegate tasks

  • Someone wanted to have a more streamlined/automated client onboarding process, but then wasn’t taking the time out of their schedule to learn a new tool to make this happen (this is me, hi!)

Let’s pause and call something out - this isn’t a question to point out if they’re doing things wrong or not.

This is a question to help reflect on if we’ve set realistic expectations for the ambitious goal we have set.

Each time I asked this question they sat back in their chair to reflect and 3 said…”Oh damn. That’s good!”

  • Some were overly optimistic about what it would take to accomplish the said goal and had to adjust timeframes  (again, me!).

  • Some called themselves out on the lack of actions they were taking.

  • Some realized they needed to break down their said goal more than it was to fully accomplish it without getting overwhelmed.

  • Some decided to hire out help to actually accomplish their goal.

As you’re mapping out your goal/vision/callitwhatyouwant…I encourage you to:

  • Really break down the steps so you can manage it without overwhelm

  • Allow yourself to celebrate little wins

  • Be honest with yourself when you consistently don’t show up and do the actionable steps. Are you justifying excuses, are you going after something you don’t actually want, are you scared of the unknown?

  • Ask for accountability from a business friend

  • Allow yourself to let it go or pivot if it was more of an “I should because other people are” type of goal

While I wish I thought of this question I’m definitely grateful Jasmine did and I could pull it into conversations to create reflection!

Have you put yourself in a situation where you needed to have some real talk with yourself to answer this type of question?

*and yes, fully mapping out an idea is up next in my brain dump with intention master class and it’s pretty darn powerful so click here if you feel you need it to create that strategy to follow through on!
